My Priority Issues

Playground and Green Spaces

Dublin 8 needs more green spaces and parks. We have great amenities such as Oscar Square park which should be opened to public and children of the Tenters should be allowed to play there. If elected to the council I will identify suitable sites for parks and playgrounds such as at Oscar Square and Grattan Square Park.

Community Hub

Newmarket Square had become a hub of activity with the monthly Flee Market and the weekly organic food co-op operating out of the Square. If elected I want to pedestrianise Newmarket Square and turn it into a centre of community activity.

Make Dublin 8 Cycle Friendly

As a cyclist I want to make Dublin 8 more cycle friendly. We need more and better cycle lanes and better cycle set down points which are safe and secure.

Anti Social Behaviour

Anti Social behaviour is a blight on our community. If elected I will work with the local community Gardai and communities to ensure we address both the effects of anti social behaviour and the causes of it.

Co-Operative Funding

If elected I want to encourage the formation of local co-operatives to maintain our green spaces and create community gardens such as the Community Garden in Dolphins Barn and Bridgefoot st.

Education

The Labour Party is fully committed to ensuring that no child leaves our education system without being able to read.

As the daughter of a teacher I am very aware of the challenges our school system faces and not just in the wake of the Budget cutbacks but as result of over a decade of underinvestment during the good times when we should have made great strides.

We need longer opening hours for libraries and an expansion in the services they provide. We should also establish homework clubs in every community centre, in every library, in every council estate and flat complex to ensure that learning is delivered not just in the classroom but in the community.

Youth Amenities

If elected I will consult with young people to establish what they believe their age group require most in terms of facilities in the area. I believe it is vital that young people are given a voice in our community and allowed to contribute to plans the future. We can set ourselves realistic targets for tackling anti-social behaviour while at the same time creating a new model for community relations in the south west inner city.
